The project is closely related to the national priorities of mobility projects of 2006 and it focuses on the training needs in the high tech metal processing technologies, which cannot be presently satisfied in Lithuania. 11 partners from the metal processing field are taking part in the project: 4 Lithuanian, 5 German, and 2 Swedish companies. The project management will be undertaken by Lithuanian and German company UAB STEVILA. Over the nine years of its operation, the company has become one of the metal processing leaders in Lithuania. The strategy of successful STEVILA’s operation is oriented towards the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, machinery, and management forms in the production process. The activities of STEVILA’s partners, who are submitting the joint tender, are very closely interrelated. ITMECHA operates in the fields of implementation of computer-aided production planning systems and adaptation of the CNC software and operator training systems. The main activities of Formosa CNC involve introduction of new metalwork processes and machinery in the Baltic States. UAB CNC SERVISAS operates in the field of CNC metal processing machinery maintenance and repair.

In 2005, STEVILA in cooperation with its partners started a professional training centre that was sited in the premises of the company. The main objectives of the project include training of diverse field practice-oriented proficient specialists in professional consulting and training at the professional training centre, improving the skills and qualifications of the specialists in the fields of metal processing technologies, advancing the process of innovations at the enterprises, and promoting continuous professional development of the employees.

The project duration is one year: from 2006-06-01 through 2007-06-01. STEVILA’s and its partners’ employees will be trained in 5 modern German companies: software providers R&B GmbH, MTS GmbH, trade and logistics company BALTTECHNIK GmbH, manufacturers BAT GmbH, and automation and planning system company Siemens AG. In Sweden, the participants of the project will improve their skills and knowledge at CNC machinery control system producers GE Fanuc Automation Nordic AB and HEIDENHAIN Scandinavia AB.

In the course of PHARE ESS Business Resource Development Fund project "Modernisation of company STEVILA involved in mechanics", the production planning system of the company was updated. In order to achieve the said objective the server and the user's operating systems were upgraded, the existing computer-aided production planning system FORB was optimised, the company acquired two production shop terminals with additional software, while the administrative and production staff were trained to operate the modified system.

The project provided the company with possibilities to purchase a computerized milling and turning works programming system CosCom; qualified external experts helped to modernize the business activities of the company, to introduce the quality management system and to get it certified under LST EN ISO 9001:2001 standard.

The workforce of the mechanical tooling companies of the region including Stevila lacked proper qualification, which used to be a major impediment for the investment development. In the course of PHARE 2000 project Stevila allocated quite significant funds to the trainings of the company staff abroad. The knowledge acquired during the trainings was share with other employees of the company. Moreover, the company developed a system of staff qualification improvement. Baltec CNC Technologie representatives consulted the company on the production modernisation issues, organised trainings and seminars for the company staff. The company set up the new training room and bought all the necessary training equipment at its own expense.

Lithuanian and German company Stevila communicated the acquired experience and knowledge to other representatives of the mechanical tooling companies and training institutions of the region. This was done in the form of seminars, publications, and consultations.

The key objective of the project, which was to increase the productivity of company STEVILA, to reduce the time required for fulfilling the orders and to increase their volumes, to improve the quality of the production process and to increase the company development rates, to improve the qualification of the workforce and to increase their number, was successfully achieved.
